Master of Business Administration

When you earn an M.B.A. from Walden University’s School of Management, you will join a network of successful business executives who have enhanced their knowledge, expanded their influence, and advanced their careers by developing their leadership and management potential.

Walden’s M.B.A. focuses on four key areas:
  • Reflective business leadership and management practice
  • Business processes
  • Specialized practice
  • Capstone
The courses feature practical case studies, business simulations and “virtual executive” roles that give you the opportunity to apply business strategies immediately in your workplace and industry. The program provides a solid grounding in leading-edge management, economics, and marketing strategies and practices, with the option to choose a specialization in areas critical to success in today’s competitive business environment.

Specializations
  • Accounting for Managers

Designed for business managers seeking a greater understanding of accounting tools and concepts, this specialization will prepare you to work more effectively with internal accounting departments as well as outside agencies.

  • Finance

A strong foundation in finance has never been more essential for navigating within a culture of increasing business accountability. With a specialization in Finance, you will learn theories of corporate finance and acquire tools to make more informed and profitable business decisions. You can expect to complete this specialization with a broad knowledge of corporate finance, financial markets, institutions, banking, and financial risk management. You’ll also learn how to work ethically and accurately in light of recent business scandals and new government regulations.

  • General Management

The M.B.A. General Management specialization offers the broad perspective that is critical to leading an entire organization. Rather than focusing in-depth on a particular specialization, you will gain insights into organizational behavior and such key areas as marketing and human resource management.

  • Global Business

With this specialization in Global Business, you will gain insight into the cultural, economic, and political factors of international commerce that impact the success of your organization and your industry. You’ll analyze international business operations and practices, global logistics and supply chain management, international trade and market entry, and international finance and economic policies.

  • Health Care Management

Ideal for professionals who seek a leadership position in a health care organization, this specialization provides a broad overview of the American health care system and emerging issues that will shape its future. You will examine how best to contain medical costs while maintaining quality patient care. And you’ll review health care systems in other countries for best practices.

  • Human Resource Management

A specialization in Human Resource Management will enhance your M.B.A. degree by providing you with strategies to align the goals of an organization with its talent base. You will learn the fundamentals of strategic human resource management, including staffing, training, and improving and rewarding performance (and related regulatory constraints) that you can apply immediately to your workplace.

  • Knowledge/Learning Management

Create a competitive edge for you and your company by leveraging your organization’s internal knowledge more effectively. In this Knowledge/Learning Management specialization, you will learn how to transfer knowledge from one individual or department throughout the entire organization to encourage creativity and innovation. Discover how to design a custom knowledge management strategy that is functional, adaptive, sustainable, and timely. You will complete the program with proven strategies that put your knowledge, and your organization’s knowledge, into immediate action.

  • Management of Technology

With this specialization in Management of Technology, you will better understand technology in order to integrate it more fully into your overall business strategies. Learn how to assess and evaluate technical systems and develop methods to manage large, complex technical projects. Benchmark and analyze current best practices with the development of a strategic information technology plan.

  • Marketing

Advance in your organization’s marketing division or transition into a new career through a specialization in Marketing. Within this program, you will learn how to effectively connect the right product or service with the right customers through a comprehensive range of proven skills, including market research, branding, and relationship marketing. Expand your global perspective through coursework on assessing and developing international marketplaces.

  • Nonprofit Management and Leadership

Learn how to effectively lead a nonprofit organization by leveraging best practices from the public and private sectors. You will review such key issues as mission development, budgeting, strategic planning, marketing, fundraising, social entrepreneurship, and board governance in order to grow your nonprofit organization. Complete the program with a deeper understanding of the role of nonprofit organizations in fostering social change.

  • Risk Management

This specialization was developed in collaboration with the American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters (AICPCU) to address the area of risk management and insurance. Enhance your M.B.A. degree with additional expertise in assessing an organization’s exposure to product, professional, and environmental liabilities.
