Norwich University's Master in Justice Administration (MJA) degree offers more than criminal justice or public administration. The program focuses on the synthesis of education, training, and skills needed to be an effective manager in the justice system. The program offers customized degrees for military, law enforcement, security, corrections, and adjudication professionals.
The MJA degree is designed to accommodate your demanding work and home-life schedule and is built specifically for working professionals, with a uniquely flexible mode of study. You attend virtual seminars, student forums, and asynchronous discussion groups, all without leaving the comfort of your own home. The core curriculum consists of 36 credits of online coursework, split into six, 6-credit seminars. The coursework is followed by a one-week residency and graduation at Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont.
Real problems, real solutions
As a professional you face real problems and challenges in your own workplace environment. As a student in the MJA program you will have the opportunity to conduct research and apply your academic study to the real problems you face in your own job and career. The capstone paper provides a unique opportunity to work closely with a faculty mentor whose area of expertise is consistent with your area of interest. Your mentor will provide guidance, structure and function as a great resource for solving the problems of justice administration that you confront in your own workplace. All students must present their capstone paper at the Justice Conference that occurs at the residency.
The classroom is virtual. Your Master’s degree is real.
The Diplomacy program is designed for students who work on a full-time basis and who appreciate the advantages of applying what they learn in the classroom to their profession. The convenience and flexibility of online learning is well established. Study at home, at work, or even at a nearby wireless café
Seminar customization
You will have the opportunity to conduct in-depth study in areas of professional or personal interest in each seminar. You are encouraged to prepare a seminar paper or project that has direct relevance to your own work situation and career enhancement. Our students typically create new management policies for their organization, conduct policy analyses, apply the seminar to their sub-field of criminal justice, or conduct traditional research for their papers. Some have even published their work in national journals with the support and encouragement of their instructor and Program Director.
