Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Digital Design
|
Students will learn the principles, practical applications and methodologies used to complete competent and creative graphic solutions for specified design problems. Throughout the Digital Design curriculum, they will create a portfolio of projects from each of their courses, the intent of which is to prepare them to pursue such opportunities as web designers, graphic designers, Flash animators and many other creative career opportunities.
The courses required to complete the Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree with a concentration in Digital Design include:
- Advanced Typography
This course develops an understanding of the structure and engineering of type within design, form line, paragraph, and page spreads.
- Corporate Identity Development
This course investigates the development and use of corporate logos, letterhead, annual reports, websites, marketing materials, signage, and advertising techniques to effectively establish and promote corporate identity.
- Advanced Web Design
This course is an extension of Web Design. It focuses on advanced topics in web design, such as improving navigation and site performance, maximizing browser targeting, integrating databases and digital media, and devloping web applications. Students will create operational web sites through work in independent and group projects.
- Multimedia
This course focuses on the creation of interactive, vector-based animation for the Web and other media. Students will develop proficiency in animated web graphics, interactive software, and digital production techniques through the completion of various design projects.
- Theory and History of Visual Communication
This course introduces students to the ideologies and elements of art and design as illustrated throughout history. Students will review design elements, design principles, and the creative process as they relate to the evolution of art and design.
- Illustration
This course explores concepts, methods and tools employed in contemporary illustration. Emphasis is placed upon the development of ideas and the exploration of varied media.
- Advanced Graphic Design
In this course students expand on their design skills by rigorously examining design decisions involving imaging, layout, and software applications. Students will focus on advanced design concepts and problem-solving skills.
- Web Design
The student will learn how to apply design techniques to develop an effective, well-designed Web site.
- Senior Project
Under faculty supervision, students will complete an independent design project that demonstrates their theoretical and technical proficiency in relation to the total design process in the student's area of study.
- Portfolio Development
This course will explore the various aspects of creating a professional portfolio for use in seeking employement. Subjects to be covered include: portfolio layout, preparation and installation of artwork, developing a resume, designs, presentation techniques, and portfolio updating.
